Visiting Tokyo?
You'll need your navigating skills!

Booking a hotel or tour might appear straightforward, but taking the time to plan your "base" is always a wise decision.

Navigating Tokyo’s Train Network

Tokyo has a truly massive and complex train network! It can be a bit tricky to give an exact number, as there are different ways of counting stations. Here's a breakdown:

  • Overall: There are over 882 interconnected rail stations in the Tokyo Metropolis. This includes all types of trains, from JR lines to subways and private railways.

  • Subway Stations: Within that total, there are around 282 subway stations. These are the stations you'll likely use most for getting around central Tokyo.

  • Counting Challenges:

    • Some stations are served by multiple lines, and you could count them once or multiple times.
    • Some stations have different names but are really connected and considered one interchange.
